Apollo Microsystems gets Indian Air Force nod for IPREK precision kits
The company was shortlisted as a Prime Development Agency under India’s Make-II (Industry Funded) programme, aimed at upgrading unguided bombs into precision glide weapons.
Apollo Microsystems shares fell on the NSE on Tuesday, July 28, after the defence company said it has been shortlisted and empanelled by the Indian Air Force as a Prime Development Agency for the Indigenous Precision Range Extension Kit (IPREK) programme.
According to a company exchange filing, the selection falls under the Make-II (Industry Funded) category of India’s Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 (DAP-2020). Apollo Microsystems said the empanelment brings it into India’s precision guided munition segment as a high-value, high-barrier part of the defence manufacturing market.
IPREK is described as a precision guidance and range extension kit that would upgrade India’s existing 500 kg General Purpose unguided bombs into long-range precision glide weapons. The kit is intended to allow launches from over 80 to 100 kilometers while keeping accuracy within 3 meters of the target, enabling aircraft to operate outside the range of most air defence systems.
Apollo Microsystems also framed the programme as a cost-effective alternative to buying imported precision-guided munitions, converting existing bomb inventory into precision standoff weapons. The stock had opened at ₹391.60 on Tuesday, versus a prior close of ₹392.95, and the source reported the shares were down more than 3% during the session.
