Bitcoin falls below $63,000 as Asia chip sell-off hits US markets
Bitcoin tested ten-day lows at the Wall Street open as South Korea’s KOSPI slid 10.8% in a session and semiconductor shares sold off.
Bitcoin slipped below $63,000 and hit ten-day lows at the Wall Street open as crypto weakness followed a US stock sell-off tied to losses in semiconductors after an abrupt drop in Asia, Cointelegraph reported. Cointelegraph cited sharp declines in Asia’s chip-linked complex, including South Korea’s KOSPI Index finishing down 10.8% in a single session, with SK Hynix down 14.8% and Japan’s memory maker Kioxia Holdings falling 18.3%. In the US, the Nasdaq Composite was down just over 1% at the time of writing. The report also linked the risk-off tone in chips to investor questions about whether hyperscalers’ AI infrastructure spending remains sustainable, including concerns about rising scrutiny of capital expenditure trajectories. It noted that combined 2026 capex guidance from Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta is tracking around $725–730 billion, with Wall Street expectations that the figure could rise toward $900 billion in 2027. Cointelegraph said the sell-off in semiconductors and AI has spilled into Bitcoin, with data from TradingView showing BTC/USD dipping below $63,000, even as major crypto assets moved lower alongside the broader market tension.
