Claude Opus 5 builds a playable FPS using a simple prompt
The demo, shared by Matt Shumer, said the shooter was created without any external assets and used a looping “Gauntlet Loop” prompt structure.
Decrypt reports that a maker of a Claude-assisted game says Claude Opus 5 produced a fully playable first-person shooter using a prompt described as unusually short and simple, with other users able to rerun the same prompt and get similar results.
According to Decrypt, Matt Shumer, who posted a video of the game, said the model “one-shotted” the build and that not a single external asset was used. Shumer also shared that the prompt, posted on GitHub, told Opus 5 to target the level of recent Call of Duty games and to fan out work to subagents.
Decrypt adds that the prompt set up multiple critics, each with separate memory and narrow responsibilities, and required looping with harsh review against real Call of Duty footage via a blind side-by-side. The prompt aimed for an outcome described as “utterly perfect,” while Decrypt notes Shumer later characterized the approach as a “Gauntlet Loop,” designed so builders do not grade their own work.
In Decrypt’s account, Shumer said he did not specify the renderer, list the game systems, or define what “AAA quality” should include, and instead relied on the internal critic created for the grading step, part of a shift away from long, detailed prompt engineering toward inspectable performance criteria.
