Hong Kong lawmakers urge overhaul of public inquiry hotline

Legco President Starry Lee Wai-king pointed to Beijing’s 12345 platform, saying Hong Kong’s 1823 hotline could be improved by studying the model.

Hong Kong lawmakers told the city’s chief executive that authorities should revamp the public inquiry and complaint hotline to handle residents’ concerns more effectively, drawing lessons from Beijing’s 12345 Citizen Hotline Service Centre, according to SCMP Economy.

Legco President Starry Lee Wai-king said lawmakers proposed visiting the 1823 centre in Hong Kong and reviewing how it could be improved after comparing it with the Beijing one-stop platform for complaints.

The comments came during the first closed-door “rules-free and warm-hearted” dialogue session, held at Legco on Tuesday, where 67 lawmakers participated and 15 speakers addressed Lee, SCMP Economy reported.

Lee cited Beijing’s centre as an example of a more streamlined approach, arguing that Hong Kong’s 1823 hotline could better serve residents by applying similar practices.
