Hong Kong Shopping Festival to expand into Asean via Singapore and Malaysia

The third edition launches next month, with the mainland run set for Aug. 1 to 20 and the Asean version scheduled for Sept. 21 to 27.

Hong Kong’s annual e-commerce shopping festival, designed to support the city’s small and medium-sized enterprises, will expand into the Asean region for the first time through Singapore and Malaysia, according to an update from the Trade Development Council reported by the SCMP Economy.

The Trade Development Council said the festival’s third edition, launching next month, drew a record number of local brands across its mainland China and Asean editions this year, and it aims to align with government calls to help Hong Kong SMEs grow through cross-border online commerce.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said the event reflects how e-commerce has become an important channel for both local sales and cross-boundary sales, while the inclusion of Asean is expected to help Hong Kong brands reach more consumers and tap new opportunities.

The mainland edition is scheduled for Aug. 1 to 20, and the Asean version will run from Sept. 21 to 27.
