Israel expands Gaza military demarcation, forcing more evacuations
Residents in Gaza City’s Zeitoun district say the movement of the demarcation has repeatedly displaced their families amid ongoing military activity.
On a road in Gaza City’s Zeitoun district, a Palestinian resident, Assem Dawla, said his family has been forced to leave a shelter multiple times since the war began due to Israeli evacuation orders and the advance of what residents call the “yellow line.” He described loading mattresses and bags onto a truck as concrete blocks marked the edge of an expanding Israeli-controlled military zone.
Residents and Hamas officials cited at least five Gaza locations where the “yellow line” has been pushed forward in recent days, moving the demarcation that was established under a US-brokered ceasefire reached in October. Dawla said continued Israeli military activity made it too dangerous to remain, adding that the occupation has moved the line to Salah al-Din Street.
The “yellow line” is described as a military demarcation tied to the October ceasefire, which largely halted major fighting after a two-year Israeli war in Gaza triggered by Hamas’ attack on southern Israel. The story also notes that US President Donald Trump set out a peace plan for Gaza that accompanied the ceasefire.
