Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman pushes plan to speed housing

Housing affordability, homelessness, and public safety are central themes in Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman’s campaign, as Commercial Observer reports.
Raman, a progressive City Councilmember, narrowly beat realty TV personality Spencer Pratt for a spot in the November runoff election, and she argues the city’s housing crisis is driven by local policy and bureaucratic hurdles.
Commercial Observer notes that Raman proposes executive actions and agency changes that she says would create faster, more predictable permitting for developers, framing the effort as transforming Los Angeles into a “city of yes.”
Policy director Scott Epstein of Abundant Housing L.A. said there are no immediate “silver bullets,” but highlighted that the overall package is intended to change the city’s housing production culture, while a Berkeley Terner Center official pointed to process certainty and simplification as key to reducing complexity in California building.
