Nvidia CEO meets US officials amid reports of China AI training scrutiny
The visit comes as Nvidia’s export controls restrict sales of its most advanced processors to China, and the company said Huang was in Washington to discuss strengthening the US technology supply chain, including producing US$500 billion in American technology over four years.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is in Washington this week meeting US officials and lawmakers amid reports that the company’s export controlled processors were used to train advanced Chinese artificial intelligence models, according to SCMP Economy.
SCMP Economy said Huang met US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Tuesday, as reported by Axios citing an anonymous source, while neither the US Commerce Department nor Nvidia confirmed that the meeting occurred or disclosed its purpose.
A Nvidia spokesperson told SCMP Economy that Huang is meeting leaders across the political spectrum to discuss the company’s work to strengthen the country’s supply chain, including producing US$500 billion in American technology over four years and supporting American leadership in AI and open source.
The reporting also noted that US export controls limit Nvidia’s ability to sell its most advanced processors to China.
