Qantas A350-1000ULR completes 24-hour record flight for Project Sunrise

The test flight covered 23,075 km over the Pacific and Atlantic without stopping, and Qantas says the A350-1000ULR will debut on the Sydney-London nonstop route from 2027.

Qantas’ specially adapted Airbus A350-1000ULR has completed a record-breaking commercial flight, landing in Toulouse 24 hours and 24 minutes after departing Melbourne, according to the Guardian Business.

The airline said the nonstop flight was part of its Project Sunrise program, which plans to use the new A350 jet for direct service between Australia and London. The aircraft is set to debut with Qantas on the nonstop Sydney-London route from 2027.

Airbus said the plane, fitted with an extra fuel tank, remained in the air for the same 24 hours and 24 minutes, covering 23,075 km over the Pacific and Atlantic oceans without stopping before returning to Airbus’ factory in Toulouse.

The airline has ordered 12 modified A350-1000ULR aircraft intended to connect Australia’s east coast with London and New York in about 20 hours, aiming to cut what was previously a five-day “Kangaroo Route” journey into a single flight lasting roughly 19 to 21 hours depending on routing and winds.
