Sekisui House expands resilient SHAWOOD communities across the U.S.
The homebuilder says it will roll out its resiliency and sustainability techniques across Richmond American and other brands, after operating eight SHAWOOD communities in the U.S.
Sekisui House U.S. is expanding its SHAWOOD-branded residential communities in the United States, highlighting precision wood framing plus options designed to support solar and battery-ready readiness, HousingWire reports. The company’s approach is tied to its broader emphasis on resiliency and sustainability in homebuilding as it scales its U.S. footprint.
CEO David Viger said the company plans to extend resiliency and sustainability techniques over time across Richmond American and other U.S. brands. The expansion follows Sekisui House’s 2024 acquisition of MDC Holdings, the parent company of Richmond American Homes, a deal valued at $4.9 billion, according to HousingWire.
HousingWire adds that Sekisui House has already unveiled eight SHAWOOD communities and has an ongoing plan to deliver more. The outlet also notes that the builder is implementing the mission attributed to its Japanese parent, combining Japanese and U.S. technologies.
In fiscal year 2025, HousingWire reports Sekisui House closed 11,712 homes worth a combined $6.7 billion, ranking it as the largest Japanese builder in the nation based on its homebuilder rankings. The outlet cites estimates that Japanese firms hold 6% of the U.S. homebuilding market, and says that share is growing.
