Trump meets Zelensky to discuss Patriot production licences
The Oval Office meeting came after Trump said the US would license Ukraine to make Patriot defense systems.
SCMP Economy reports that US President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office on Tuesday, with the leaders discussing ways for Ukraine to produce its own powerful weapons and other ideas to support Kyiv in its war against Russia.
The outlet said the closed-door sit-down followed Trump’s earlier meeting at a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, where the president announced the US would give Ukraine a licence to make Patriot defense systems, a long-standing request from Kyiv to counter Russian missile attacks.
In a post on social media after the meeting, Zelensky thanked Trump for what he called a good meeting and for Republican administration efforts to aid Ukraine, noting they discussed licenses for Patriot interceptor production along with several other ideas that could help.
Zelensky also offered condolences to Trump for the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, described as a close ally, according to SCMP Economy.
