Whole Foods leases 8,121 sq ft for Daily Shop at 1524 Second Ave

The landlord broker Newmark said the asking rent was $250 per square foot for the planned prepared-foods mini-mart on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Whole Foods Market has signed a lease for its small-scale Daily Shop concept on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, taking space at 1524 Second Avenue, also known as the Continental Towers, Commercial Observer reported.

The deal covers 8,121 square feet on the ground floor of the property managed by ConTowers Associates LP, according to Newmark, which brokered the transaction. While brokers did not define the exact store format, the focus is expected to be on prepared foods in a convenient setting, likely tied to the Whole Foods Market Daily Shop concept that launched in March 2024.

Newmark said it did not disclose the lease term, but stated the asking rent was $250 per square foot. In a statement, Jeffrey Roseman, who represented the landlord alongside Drew Weiss, highlighted the value of the property’s visibility and surrounding residential density for Whole Foods’ neighborhood format.

Commercial Observer also noted Whole Foods’ broader expansion of Daily Shops in New York City, including a 15-year lease for a 10,000-square-foot space at 1224 Flushing Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn, in June. It added that Amazon previously announced it would close all Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh locations to concentrate on Whole Foods and online grocery delivery services.
