Brale launches ION Protocol to improve interoperability for custom stablecoins

The protocol transfers stablecoins by burning tokens on one chain and minting on another without using pre funded liquidity pools on each network.

Stablecoin infrastructure firm Brale introduced ION Protocol, an interoperability system designed to let participating stablecoins move across blockchains. The mechanism burns tokens on one network and mints an equivalent amount on another, aiming to address scaling limits in today’s bridge designs.

Brale said the approach is meant to reduce capital requirements versus conventional bridges that depend on pre funded liquidity pools. The company links the problem to a growing number of custom stablecoins, which can fragment liquidity as issuers expand across more chains.

ION Protocol also comes as the broader stablecoin market has accelerated, with CoinGecko tracking more than 350 stablecoin tokens and market capitalization above $300 billion. While the market remains dominated by Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC, more banks, fintechs, crypto firms, and asset managers are issuing branded stablecoins for payments, settlements, and tokenized assets.

Brale supports more than a hundred stablecoin programs across more than 30 blockchains, and its customers handle billions of dollars in monthly payment volume while keeping stablecoin balances relatively small because the tokens are intended for transactions rather than investment. The company argues that current interoperability models will not scale as more issuers launch their own versions.
