Cynthia Lummis urges Senate action on stalled Clarity Act
The updated bill would bar government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto, and lawmakers are aiming to pass it before the August recess.
Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming urged Senate colleagues to move forward on the Clarity Act, criticizing Democrats for stalling progress as Congress heads toward the August recess, according to Bitcoin Magazine.
Lummis said the bill reflects bipartisan work and described it as beneficial for consumers, while acknowledging that some Democrats oppose the current version.
The Clarity Act has been deadlocked for much of 2026, with the outlet citing concerns raised by the banking lobby about stablecoin yield. An updated version was introduced last week that addresses ethics issues by banning government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto.
If enacted, the long-awaited legislation would create a regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin Magazine also noted that the bill was previously passed in the House last year with strong bipartisan support.
