Global LNG trade hit a record high in 2025 as US exports grew
Volumes rose 5.4% to 56.3 Bcf/d, though growth has since cooled after Qatar’s export route closed this year.
Global liquefied natural gas trade volumes climbed 5.4% to a record 56.3 billion cubic feet per day in 2025, according to a report cited by the EIA.
The increase was driven largely by expanding U.S. LNG export capacity that helped supply rising global demand, the EIA said, citing GIIGNL.
The EIA also noted that global LNG trade has slowed in 2026, following the closure of the key export route for Qatar.
The reported shift highlights how changes in major supply routes can quickly affect global LNG flows.
