MoonPay launches PayBox vault for AI to buy, swap, and bridge crypto
PayBox keeps users in control by using multi party computation and trusted execution environments to protect wallet keys, and it lets approvals be required for every transaction.
MoonPay has launched PayBox, a payment vault that allows ChatGPT and Claude users to authorize crypto transactions within a conversation, including crypto purchases, token swaps, and crosschain transfers, while retaining custody of their assets, Cointelegraph reports. Users connect a crypto wallet and payment methods to ChatGPT or Claude, then the AI prepares transactions using natural language prompts.
According to Cointelegraph, users can approve each transaction with a passkey or set spending limits that permit certain actions to run automatically. PayBox also supports either requiring approval for every transaction or allowing AI to act autonomously within predefined spending and permission limits.
MoonPay said PayBox uses multi party computation and trusted execution environments designed to protect wallet keys, preventing either the AI assistant or MoonPay from independently accessing user funds. The platform supports multiple blockchains and payment methods, including debit cards, bank accounts, Apple Pay, and PayPal.
Cointelegraph adds that PayBox supports x402, an open payment protocol developed by Coinbase that enables AI agents to make internet-native payments. The protocol, contributed to the Linux Foundation in April 2026, is now governed as an open, vendor neutral industry standard, and Coinbase has expanded the x402 ecosystem this year with tools launched in June.
