US stock futures edge up before Fed decision as Middle East tensions flare
S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures rose 0.2%, while Dow futures fell 0.2%, as crude oil rebounded on renewed supply disruption concerns.
US stock futures were modestly higher ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy decision, after three straight sessions of losses, with investors staying cautious. Futures tied to the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 each rose 0.2%, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipped 106 points, or 0.2%, in early trading, according to LiveMint Markets.
Geopolitical risk also re-entered the conversation as renewed hostilities in the Middle East lifted worries about potential supply disruptions. LiveMint Markets said crude oil prices rebounded, and it noted that the sell-off in semiconductor stocks continued.
In Asia, major benchmarks ended lower, with South Korea’s Kospi down 6% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 down 1.49%. LiveMint Markets attributed much of Seoul’s drop to SK Hynix, which fell another 2.1% in premarket trading after reporting quarterly operating profit that rose nearly sixfold year on year but fell short of analyst expectations, extending losses after the shares dropped below their IPO price.
Investors were also looking ahead to corporate earnings, with Meta Platforms and Microsoft in focus as the AI-driven market rally faces questions about whether AI infrastructure spending will pay off. LiveMint Markets said the Fed is widely expected to keep rates unchanged, at 3.50% to 3.75%, and that markets were pricing roughly a one-third probability of a 25-basis-point hike despite uncertainty so close to the announcement.
