Bitcoin holds near $64,000 as oil jumps and FOMC stays split
Bitcoin was little changed near $63,915 after about $286 million in crypto positions were liquidated over 24 hours, as DeFi tokens led gains.
Bitcoin held near the $64,000 level as oil jumped and investors digested a split interest-rate message from the Federal Reserve, according to CoinDesk. The outlet cited Bitcoin trading at about $63,915 early Thursday, after a difficult session for risk assets on Wednesday.
CoinDesk said the Fed kept rates unchanged, but three committee members voted to raise them, reigniting rate-hike speculation. Rabobank also warned that rate-hike chatter could return in the coming weeks, a backdrop CoinDesk linked to whipsaw moves in leveraged crypto futures and heavy liquidations.
CoinDesk reported that approximately $286 million in crypto positions were liquidated in 24 hours, with longs accounting for $186 million and shorts for $100 million. The outlet described the balance as reflecting sharp two-way trading before prices settled back near their starting point.
On the geopolitical and macro side, CoinDesk said Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles at U.S. troops and that all were intercepted, with President Donald Trump vowing a hard response. It noted that oil rose roughly 8% overnight, while DeFi tokens outperformed on Thursday, including Uniswap up 4.46% and a 24-hour gain for a standout DeFi token of about 6.95%, as measured over the same period.
