Canada Life Re posts more than CAD 300 million in base earnings in Q2 2026
Canada Life Re reported CAD 310 million base earnings in Q2 2026 and CAD 610 million for the first half, while net earnings rose to CAD 305 million in the quarter.
Great-West Lifeco’s Canada Life Re reinsurance operation generated more than CAD 300 million in base earnings in the second quarter of 2026, building on a record CAD 353 million in the first quarter.
The reinsurer delivered CAD 310 million of base earnings in Q2 2026, attributing year-on-year improvement to continued strength in Capital Solutions new business growth. For the first half of the year, base earnings totaled CAD 610 million, up 38% from CAD 442 million a year earlier.
Net earnings also increased, reaching CAD 305 million in Q2 2026 versus CAD 194 million in the comparable quarter. For the first half, net earnings rose to CAD 658 million from CAD 378 million.
Across Great-West Lifeco, total base earnings rose to CAD 1.27 billion in Q2 2026 from CAD 1.149 billion a year earlier, and for the first half reached CAD 2.509 billion, up from CAD 2.179 billion. The company reported net earnings of CAD 1.039 billion in the quarter and CAD 2.231 billion for the half-year period.
