India retail investors boost equity purchases in June quarter

Net buying by retail investors rose to ₹39,287 crore in the three months ended June, their highest quarterly investment since December 2024, as retail ownership expanded across BSE-listed firms.

Retail investors in India increased their participation in equities during the June quarter, with the share of BSE-listed companies showing higher retail ownership rising to 43% from 35% in the prior quarter, according to shareholding analysis cited by LiveMint Markets.

The analysis covered 4,601 BSE-listed companies for the first quarter of FY27, showing retail ownership increased in 1,970 firms, declined in 2,183 firms, and showed no material change in 448 companies.

LiveMint Markets reported that retail investors bought equities worth a net ₹39,287 crore during the three months ended June, citing NSE data, marking their highest quarterly investment since the December quarter of 2024.

Among the biggest retail favourites were Vedanta, Wipro, and Bajaj Auto, which together added more than 1.22 million individual shareholders in the first quarter of FY27, alongside sizable additions in HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, and Infosys, the outlet said.
