Ontario survey finds Canadian crypto ownership rose to 25% in 2026

The Ontario Securities Commission survey polled 2,360 Canadians from December 2025 to January 2026 and found 59% were aware of crypto assets.

Cointelegraph reports that a survey by the Ontario Securities Commission found Canadian cryptocurrency ownership climbed to 25% in 2026, up from 10% in 2023.

The OSC data, released Tuesday, polled 2,360 adults age 18 and over between December 2025 and January 2026, with 59% of respondents saying they were aware of crypto assets and 25% reporting they held them.

The survey also pointed to rising awareness of risk, but it was described as limited, with about 50% of crypto owners saying they check whether a platform is registered before using it.

According to Cointelegraph, the OSC said many investors had misunderstandings about regulation, insurance protections, and transaction capabilities, while Ottawa lawmakers have proposed steps including a bill that could ban political donations using crypto and a proposal to ban digital asset ATMs due to fraud concerns.
