Russian air strikes kill at least 13 across Ukraine, Poland scrambles jets
The attacks triggered air raid alerts across most regions, with fatalities reported in Kyiv and multiple other cities including Kryvyi Rih.
Russian air strikes across Ukraine on Thursday killed at least 13 people, including one in Kyiv, and reached as far west as Lviv, prompting neighboring Poland to scramble fighter jets to secure its airspace, according to Reuters via SCMP Economy.
Air raid alerts sounded across most regions, and a Reuters witness reported explosions in Kyiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a few non-residential sites caught fire on Telegram.
In the capital, emergency services reported one death and two injuries. Reuters reported additional deaths in Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava, with six more people killed there, including two children.
In Zelensky’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih, two girls aged 5 and 12 were among six killed, with eight injured, Reuters said. Oleksandr Vilkul, the city’s defense council head, said the strike was carried out by a Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile and warned the death toll could rise as rubble is cleared.
