SpaceX shares slide below IPO price after early trading surge

The stock is down roughly 30% from its June market debut and more than 50% from its $225.64 all-time high, with Yahoo Finance highlighting post-lockup patterns from other large IPOs.

SpaceX shares have fallen after an IPO-driven climb that briefly pushed the company into the market spotlight, with the stock now trading below its debut levels, according to Yahoo Finance. On IPO day, SpaceX stock opened around $150 and moved past $160, then reached about $192.50 after another near-20% gain on the following Monday. By the third trading day, SpaceX surpassed Amazon to become the fifth-largest publicly traded company by market value, the outlet reported. Despite the early momentum, Yahoo Finance says the stock has since pulled back quickly, bouncing below its market debut price more than once. The shares are now down roughly 30% from the June market debut and down over 50% from the all-time high of $225.64. Yahoo Finance also points to IPO performance trends, citing an Alliance Bernstein analysis of IPOs that raised at least $50 million over the past 10 years. Six months after lockup expiration, the median return was a 10% decline, and the firm reported that one in 10 IPO stocks dropped by at least 62% in the six months following traditional lock-up expirations.
