UK FCA to publish daily stock-trading data starting Friday
The FCA will also release a year of historical trading data and will outline the feed scope on Friday, potentially including both pre-trade and post-trade information.
The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority plans to begin publishing a daily summary of trading activity in UK shares starting Friday, as part of an effort to improve transparency in the equity market, according to LiveMint Markets citing people familiar with the matter.
Alongside the daily update, the regulator will publish a year’s worth of backward-looking data to help investors assess UK stock trading volumes. The FCA also intends to specify the scope of the planned consolidated feed on Friday, which is likely to cover data from before trades take place as well as after.
The daily publication is positioned as an interim step toward a complete consolidated tape for equities, described as a single feed of stock trading data. Debate in London has focused on whether a “pre-trade tape” should include pricing data from banks, with agreement closer to a “post-trade tape” that reflects trades after execution.
The plan comes amid broader attempts to boost transparency, slow companies leaving the London Stock Exchange, and encourage more listings. LiveMint Markets notes that LSE CEO Julia Hoggett previously called for the FCA to proceed carefully, including conditions such as ensuring all price-forming venues contribute and building operational resilience while protecting market integrity.
