Vida Global begins paying employees in Bitcoin via Lightning

The Austin, Texas-based firm says it uses Voltage to route Lightning payments so employees receive bitcoin while Vida’s balance sheet stays denominated in U.S. dollars.

Vida Global, a publicly traded AI operating system company, said it has started paying employees in Bitcoin using the Lightning network, with transaction handling routed through Bitcoin infrastructure provider Voltage.

According to Bitcoin Magazine, the change began after a worker in Argentina asked to be paid in bitcoin, prompting Vida to tap Voltage to execute the payments so employees receive bitcoin while the company does not hold bitcoin on its balance sheet.

The company said it simply sends the cash amount through Voltage’s platform, then settles in U.S. dollars at the end of the month “like a standard vendor invoice,” aiming to meet employee preferences without adding crypto complexity to accounting.

Bitcoin Magazine also notes that Lightning is designed to speed up and lower cost by shifting transactions around the main Bitcoin chain, and that Voltage framed the setup as a way to bridge global, by-default AI teams with payment rails that have not kept pace.
