Aave governance weighs winding down V3 markets on six blockchains

The proposed cleanup would affect $98.1 million in supplied assets and $15.6 million in debt, plus retire 50 low-use reserves and 21 matured Pendle listings.

DeFi protocol Aave is considering a governance proposal to wind down its V3 lending markets on six blockchains, as well as retire low-use token listings. Cointelegraph reports the plan would cover Sonic, Scroll, zkSync, Metis, Soneium, and Aptos, with the protocol’s reserves measured as of July 28.

The proposal, informed by DeFi risk management service LlamaRisk working with other Aave providers, would offboard 50 low-use reserves and retire 21 matured Pendle principal token listings across 11 deployments. It would also retire all 25 reserves on Sonic, Scroll, zkSync, Metis, Soneium, and Aptos.

According to Cointelegraph, the proposed cleanup covers $98.1 million in supplied assets and $15.6 million in debt. The outlet also notes that the recommendation for Aptos comes 11 months after Aave launched its V3 market there, when available liquidity had fallen 94% over six months and quarterly revenue was below $1,000.

Cointelegraph adds that, in some cases, prior actions were already taken, with every reserve on Scroll, zkSync, Metis, and Soneium already frozen, while Sonic and Aptos were still active and recommended for freezing. The proposal follows earlier multichain votes, including a Dec. 5, 2025 temp check that drew 923,400 votes in favor and under 1% against increasing reserve factors on underperforming instances and shutting down specific V3 instances.
