Australia launches GSAMS grain storage quality assurance standard

The Grain Storage Assets and Management Standard will be delivered by Grain Trade Australia with oversight from the agriculture department, after a pilot running from November 2022 to April 2023.

Australia has launched a new grain storage quality assurance scheme designed to strengthen confidence in grain quality, food safety and phytosanitary outcomes across the domestic and export supply chain, according to World Grain.

The Grain Storage Assets and Management Standard (GSAMS) was officially launched during the Australian Grain Industry Conference (AGIC) 2026 in Melbourne. Grain Trade Australia and the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry developed GSAMS as an alternative pathway within Australia’s grain storage and quality assurance framework, World Grain reported.

GSAMS aligns with Grain Trade Australia’s Australian Grain Industry Code of Practice and provides a consistent approach to grain storage and management. It also offers another option for demonstrating compliance with importing country and export requirements while keeping existing regulatory assurance standards in place, the outlet said.

Grain Trade Australia will handle delivery and administration of GSAMS on behalf of industry, with the agriculture department providing oversight to ensure Australia continues meeting international obligations under the Export Control Act 2020. The scheme was informed by a voluntary pilot program conducted from November 2022 to April 2023, and GSAMS was available to participants including export Registered Establishments and domestic operators starting July 1, World Grain added.
