Bhutan’s Gelephu appoints 3iQ to manage part of its Bitcoin treasury

The deal follows a December 2025 plan to allocate as much as 10,000 Bitcoin from Bhutan’s national holdings to the Gelephu Mindfulness City digital-asset hub.

Cointelegraph reports that Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City has appointed Canadian digital-asset manager 3iQ to manage an undisclosed portion of its Bitcoin treasury as the special administrative region builds a digital-asset investment hub.

Under the partnership, 3iQ will manage the portion of Bitcoin allocated to support Gelephu’s development, and it will establish a long-term presence in the city, investing in local talent and providing training and knowledge transfer.

Cointelegraph adds that while Bhutan previously said in December 2025 it could allocate up to 10,000 Bitcoin from national holdings to support the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, neither side disclosed the amount under management or details on custody, whether the mandate allows lending, derivatives, or other yield-generation strategies.

Gelephu board director Jigdrel Singay called 3iQ a founding institutional partner, and the organizations said additional milestones will be announced as Gelephu seeks to position itself as a digital offshore financial center focused on innovation, sustainability, and institutional asset management.
