DeFi onchain marketplaces drew $11 million from trading card boom

DefiLlama data cited by DL News shows the combined revenue came from NFT versions of Pokémon, One Piece, and sports cards last month.

DeFi onchain marketplaces are monetizing the renewed popularity of trading cards by letting users buy and sell NFT versions of assets like Pokémon cards and unopened packs, DL News reports.

According to data from DefiLlama's new Pro dashboard, the onchain marketplaces generated $11 million in combined revenue last month, as trading-card speculation migrated onto blockchain platforms.

DL News links the growth to the broader trading card boom, saying nostalgia, financial speculation, and a post-pandemic collectibles surge have pushed prices higher, particularly for Pokémon.

The outlet also notes that despite factories producing more than 10 billion cards annually, shortages persist, and resales of packs from popular sets often exceed their recommended retail prices, fueling further speculation.
