Tokyo CPI inflation jumps to 2.0% YoY in July

Tokyo CPI excluding fresh food rose to 1.9% YoY, while USD/JPY fell 2.1% to 159.95 after the release.

Japan’s Tokyo headline Consumer Price Index rose to 2.0% year over year in July, up from 1.7% in the prior month, the Statistics Bureau of Japan said, according to FXStreet.

Core Tokyo CPI excluding fresh food increased to 1.9% YoY, compared with 1.7% expected and 1.6% in the previous month. Another core measure, Tokyo CPI excluding fresh food and energy, climbed 2.0% YoY, versus 1.9% previously.

In the immediate reaction to the report, the Japanese yen recovered some ground. FXStreet said the USD/JPY pair was down 2.1% on the day at 159.95.
