XDC AI targets agent payments with x402 and gasless USDC settlement

XDC Network says its XDC AI product connects the open x402 payment standard with gasless USDC settlement, so agents can pay per request without accounts or human sign-off.

Decrypt reports that as AI assistants shift from recommending tasks to executing transactions, many agents still cannot complete payments for the services they line up, leaving a gap in the emerging “agentic economy.” XDC Network is positioning its XDC AI product as payment infrastructure designed to close that gap.

According to Decrypt, XDC AI pairs the open x402 standard with “gasless” USDC settlement, enabling AI agents to pay for services per request without traditional account setup or human approval. The outlet says XDC demonstrated the marketplace at a New York event that drew more than 100 industry representatives, according to co-founder Atul Khekade.

Decrypt adds that Khekade linked the shortfall in real action to the lack of real-time settlement and associated trust infrastructure, including compliance, dispute resolution, and KYC and AML processes. The story also notes that x402 revives the unused HTTP “402 Payment Required” status code and is intended to let a server charge for an API call or data item while the client settles in stablecoins over the same request.

The outlet further says XDC AI is meant to operate as shared infrastructure for agent payments, so developers can plug into a common marketplace rather than building separate rails for each use case. Decrypt describes the company as already focused on institutional plumbing, with XDC Network launched in 2019 by XinFin.
