Yield Guild Game’s YGG Play shuts down as it pivots to AI data

The publishing arm is ending by August 1, and YGG said the wind-down extends its operating runway to four years.

Yield Guild Games co-founder Gabby Dizon said the guild’s web3 game publishing unit, YGG Play, went dark on Friday, with the unit posting its own sign-off 43 minutes earlier, according to The Defiant.

In the sunsetting, YGG Play said its YGG Play services, including the YGGPlay.fun site, the Launchpad and Community Questing at community.yggplay.fun, are being retired by August 1, and that LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper along with the YGG Play platform would be available until July 31, then go offline.

YGG also disclosed a treasury of $20.6 million as of the end of the first quarter, including $6.2 million in stablecoins, Treasury bills and large-cap tokens, and said shutting the unprofitable unit extends its operating runway to four years.

The guild said its resources are now aimed at an AI data economy, starting with a business-to-business pipeline built around gaming datasets, and it attributed the closure to market conditions rather than product performance, while noting it does not expect the crypto consumer market or web3 games publishing market to recover sufficiently in the near term.
