Yield Guild pivots away from YGG Play, shutting services by Aug. 1

Yield Guild Games said it will extend its operating runway to four years after winding down the unprofitable YGG Play unit, with $20.6 million in treasury assets reported as of the end of the first quarter.

Yield Guild Games co-founder Gabby Dizon said its web3 game publishing arm, YGG Play, went offline as the unit completed its sunset. The company told users that YGG Play services tied to the YGG_Play account, including the YGGPlay.fun site, Launchpad, and Community Questing, are retired, and that marketing support for third-party games will stop.

In its wind-down timeline, the guild said the YGG Play platform and related games, including LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper, would remain available until July 31 before going offline, with the transition completing by Aug. 1. Dizon also said departing staff would receive eight additional weeks of pay, and that the shutdown affected 35 jobs.

The guild disclosed that it had $20.6 million in treasury as of the end of the first quarter, including $6.2 million in stablecoins, Treasury bills, and large-cap tokens. It said shutting the unprofitable publishing unit extended its operating runway to four years, while it reallocates resources to an AI data economy with a business-to-business pipeline built around gaming datasets.

On the token market, YGG changed hands near $0.0178 on Friday, up 1.77% over 24 hours and down 1.68% on the week. The company placed YGG's circulating market capitalization at $14.17 million and its fully diluted valuation at $17.79 million, about 99.8% below its November 2021 peak, and it attributed the closure to market conditions rather than product performance.
