FTX-linked campaign finance case moves in SDNY as Bond asks to exclude evidence

Bond faces campaign finance charges over alleged 2022 contributions linked to FTX, and her filing seeks to bar references to her husband Ryan Salame’s guilty plea.

Cointelegraph reports that a case tied to the defunct crypto exchange FTX continued in US District Court for the Southern District of New York, as former FTX Digital Markets co-CEO Ryan Salame’s name remains at the center of the dispute.

In a Friday filing related to campaign finance charges, Michelle Bond’s legal team asked the court to exclude evidence tied to Salame, including materials connected to his guilty plea. Bond’s team argued the plea materials have minimal probative value and could unfairly prejudice Bond.

The motion also requested that information about Bond’s contemporaneous divorce and custody proceedings be included, saying Salame was not an ordinary individual donor contributing to her campaign even though they were not married at the time of the alleged crime.

Cointelegraph adds that the criminal matter is among the last involving individuals connected to FTX following its 2022 collapse, and it also notes that George Santos was ordered to pay a $17,500 civil monetary penalty.
