Boloco closes its final location on September 25, 2026
The Boston restaurant, at 50 Congress St., is shutting down because the building is being converted to residential use.
Yahoo Finance reports that Boloco, the fast-casual chain known for burritos, bowls, salads, and snacks, will close its final location on September 25, 2026, ending the brand in the Boston market.
The outlet said the last restaurant at 50 Congress St. will close permanently because the property is being converted to residential. In a Facebook post announcing the shutdown, the restaurant management described the closure as the end of its run and said the remaining days would include specials and events leading up to the final date.
The report framed the move against a broader shift in work patterns, noting that downtown businesses can struggle as more employees follow hybrid schedules. It cited Stanford’s WFH Research project data showing nearly 28% of workdays remained remote in September 2024, which it said can move lunch spending away from financial centers.
Boloco had grown from a 1997 fast-casual concept called Under Wraps to about 22 locations before later shrinking, and Yahoo Finance said it was renamed Boloco, short for Boston Local Company. The report also noted that in 2007 the chain sold a controlling stake to private equity firm Winona Capital to support expansion.
