Gold futures reopen above $4,100 after U.S. pauses airstrikes
August gold futures opened at $4,102.4 per troy ounce, edging higher as markets weighed the Fed’s unchanged rates and prospects for improved talks with Iran.
Gold prices rose Friday, July 31, 2026, after U.S. airstrikes in Iran were paused overnight, helping gold reopen above the $4,100 level that it had struggled to hold for roughly a month, according to Yahoo Finance. August gold futures started the session at $4,102.4 per troy ounce and were up 0.1% from Thursday’s closing price. By 8:22 a.m. ET, the contract had moved higher to $4,112.9.
The report said the combination of reduced fighting and the Federal Reserve’s decision to leave interest rates unchanged earlier in the week gave gold “breathing room,” as investors assessed the Fed’s messaging after a two-day meeting and also looked for signs of progress in diplomatic negotiations with Iran. Yahoo Finance also noted that August gold futures were 0.1% higher versus Thursday’s opening price and pointed readers to additional coverage and tools for tracking gold’s performance over different time frames.
