China plans major solar and wind expansion by 2030
China installed about 360 GW of wind and solar in 2024, bringing total capacity to 1.4 TW and about one-third of global installed renewables.
China announced plans to massively expand its solar and wind capacity by the end of the decade, aiming to build on already large renewable buildouts, according to OilPrice.
The country has grown to become the biggest renewable energy producer globally, even as it continues to expand coal production to meet rising power demand.
The government’s stated climate targets include peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060, despite ongoing reliance on coal, OilPrice said.
China installed around 360 GW of wind and solar power in 2024 alone, bringing total installed capacity to about 1.4 TW, and the outlet added that this represented roughly one-third of the world’s 4.5 TW total.
