Bitget to end Japan services, close remaining positions by Dec. 31
The exchange stopped accepting new Japan resident registrations, and accounts will start being restricted on Nov. 1, with open positions forced closed by Dec. 31.
Bitget said it will exit Japan by stopping services to residents of the country, including ending new registrations and progressively restricting existing accounts.
According to Cointelegraph, the exchange began rejecting new Japan resident registrations immediately and will begin account restrictions on Nov. 1. Any positions still open on Dec. 31 will be forcibly closed.
Bitget also said users who believe they were incorrectly classified as Japan residents must complete “Level 2” identification, including address verification, by Nov. 1, or their accounts will be treated as belonging to Japan residents.
Cointelegraph added that the decision follows warnings from Japanese regulators, including actions by the Financial Services Agency in 2023 and 2024 and a June 2025 notice involving BTG Technology Holdings Limited and unregistered over-the-counter derivatives solicitation under the Bitget name.
