Iran says it has no talks with the US on Hormuz reopening

Iran said it is working with Oman on a temporary safe route through the Strait of Hormuz, but warned the strait will not reopen while US actions continue.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Tehran is not currently in discussions with the United States about reopening the Strait of Hormuz, calling the US a key factor in whether the situation changes. He added that talks are instead taking place with Oman regarding a temporary safe route through the strait.

Baghaei said reaching an agreement with Oman on routing would not be enough to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as long as US “aggression” continues. FXStreet noted there was no immediate impact on oil prices following the remarks.

At press time, WTI crude was trading 7.4% lower at about $78.7. The outlet also discussed how “risk-on” versus “risk-off” conditions typically influence currencies and other markets, linking safe-haven demand to potential moves in major FX pairs.
