Wildberries seeks warehouse space in Kazakhstan after drone damage
Wildberries has said it will build warehouses near Almaty and Astana, but they are not expected until at least 2027, according to Kommersant.
Wildberries, Russia’s leading e-commerce platform, is looking to expand warehousing capacity in neighboring Kazakhstan as it responds to Ukrainian drone attacks that have damaged its operations in Russia.
According to OilPrice, representatives of RMB Group, Wildberries’ parent company, are searching for warehouse space in Kazakhstan, and Kommersant cited unnamed real estate sources saying the company is ready to occupy available capacity there. The outlet said drone strikes across Russia have destroyed at least 10.0% of Wildberries’ inventory.
OilPrice reported that Ukraine has argued the platform is a legitimate military target because it has been used to distribute equipment and electronics used in the war. Wildberries representatives deny any connection to the fighting.
Kommersant also said Wildberries told the outlet it is building a 100,000 square meter facility near Almaty and a 160,000 square meter facility near Astana, with readiness pushed out to 2027 at the earliest. The article added that the added space is intended mainly for serving the Kazakh market and for distribution into Russia, and that Wildberries is reluctant to replace destroyed capacity inside Russia.
