Yen jump triggers hedge fund short squeeze amid intervention fears

The Japanese yen strengthened on Monday, extending sharp gains from the prior week as traders and hedge funds continued to unwind bearish positions, according to a Reuters report cited by Hedgeweek.

The squeeze unfolded as expectations grew that Japanese authorities could intervene again to support the currency, Reuters said.

As those intervention fears intensified in FX markets, the yen rally also appeared to encourage additional positioning changes by hedge funds, Hedgeweek added.
