Ariel Focus Fund returned 2.14% in Q2 2026, adds Dentsply Sirona
The fund said it underperformed major benchmarks in Q2, while citing dental market steady growth and lower reimbursement risk as reasons for adding Dentsply Sirona.
Ariel Investments’ Ariel Focus Fund posted a 2.14% return in the second quarter of 2026, according to its Q2 2026 investor letter, trailing the Russell 1000 Value’s 13.87% gain and the S&P 500’s 15.20% rise.
The letter said performance was helped by gains in some holdings, but weighed down by weaker results in energy, consumer healthcare, and gold mining as U.S. stocks rallied on easing geopolitical tensions, lower oil prices, and resilient earnings.
In the quarter, the firm added Dentsply Sirona (NASDAQ: XRAY), a global dental equipment and consumables manufacturer. Ariel Focus Fund pointed to challenges the company has faced since its Sirona Dental acquisition in 2016, including pressure on its core capital equipment business from lower cost technology alternatives and higher interest rate financing.
Ariel Investments said it still likes the “attractive dynamics” of the dental market, describing steady growth and lower reimbursement risk compared with other healthcare segments. It also noted XRAY shares traded between $9.41 and $14.86 over the prior 52 weeks, with a market cap of about $2.678 billion as of a July 31, 2026 close near $13.74 per share.
