Bitcoin and ethereum pull back in early trading after Iran de-escalation
Bitcoin opened Monday higher but slipped to $62,643 by 8:54 a.m. ET, while ethereum fell to $1,840.7 from its open.
Bitcoin and ethereum prices eased in early trading on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, after a Sunday announcement that the U.S. paused planned airstrikes against Iran, a development that had briefly improved sentiment. Yahoo Finance said both assets rebounded from lower weekend levels before reversing course in the morning.
According to Yahoo Finance, bitcoin opened at $63,497.25, up 1.2% from Sunday’s opening price, but traded down to $62,643 as of 8:54 a.m. ET. Ethereum opened at $1,883.15, up 2.2% from Sunday’s opening, and was quoted lower at $1,840.70 by the same time.
Yahoo Finance said crypto prices did not appear to build meaningful momentum after the Iran-related de-escalation, with geopolitical tensions described as a key headwind. The outlet also pointed to security issues and stalling legislation as factors limiting a stronger recovery.
The report noted bitcoin’s all time high at $126,198.07 on Oct. 6, 2025, and its all time low at $0.04865 on July 14, 2010. For ethereum, it cited an all time high of $4,953.73 on Aug. 24, 2025, and an all time low of $0.4209 on Oct. 21, 2015.
