Boltz pauses atomic swap service after surge in AI-assisted probing

The non-custodial Bitcoin swap service said automated AI-assisted probing accelerated sharply in recent days, disabling operations while it evaluates fixes.

Boltz, a non-custodial Bitcoin swap service, has paused its service “until further notice” after a rise in AI-assisted hacking attempts over recent months, according to Cointelegraph.

In a post to X, Boltz said it observed a steady increase in “automated AI-assisted probing” of its infrastructure this year, and that in the past few days alone it saw a drastic acceleration in attacks, adding that it does not expect the response imbalance to reverse.

Boltz operates a non-custodial, trustless atomic swap system that moves Bitcoin and Bitcoin-denominated assets between the mainnet and other Bitcoin layers such as Lightning and Liquid, and it said no user funds have ever been at risk because swaps use advanced cryptography and keep users in control.

The company also said its API will remain available to process refunds and its support team will stay reachable, while it disables the service to manage the threat environment it described.
