Cloudflare starts stablecoin wallet rollout for AI agents to pay

The programmable wallets will let owners set merchant approvals and spending limits, including per-transaction caps, before funding and payment features become available later.

Cloudflare has begun rolling out programmable stablecoin wallets designed for AI agents to pay for APIs, data, and online content, with the first phase focused on letting users claim their unique Cloudflare Wallet handle, according to The Block. The company said the wallet’s core functions, including funding with stablecoins and authorizing agents to make purchases, will arrive “soon.”

The wallet controls are set up to limit agent spending through owner-defined parameters, including allowances, approved-merchant lists, and maximum transaction sizes. Cloudflare said those limits are intended to let agents test low-cost APIs and select better options without repeatedly seeking human approval or allowing unrestricted spend.

Cloudflare said the wallets will be offered in two forms, an Account Wallet for individuals and organizations to add funds and manage controls, and a Virtual Wallet that operates through API keys so agents can make purchases on the user’s behalf. The wallets will support micropayments using x402, a protocol Coinbase developed that returns payment instructions when an agent requests access, avoiding the need for a conventional account, subscription, or API key.

The rollout builds on Cloudflare and Coinbase’s x402 foundation launch in September 2025 to promote standards for machine-to-machine payments, The Block reported. Cloudflare also cited its partnerships with Visa, Mastercard, and American Express on standards that help merchants identify trusted AI agents.
