Newmark appoints Munish Viralam to lead centralized strategy and consulting

Viralam, who joined Newmark in June after nearly two decades at CBRE, is tasked with scaling the firm’s centralized real estate strategy and consulting effort for large corporate tenants.

Munish Viralam joined Newmark in June after an 18-year career at CBRE, and has been named executive vice chairman to lead the firm’s newly centralized real estate strategy and consulting group, Commercial Observer reports.

In the role, Viralam will head a practice described as transactional in focus and aimed at advising major corporate entities in New York City on real estate and occupancy strategy. The group combines analytics with an assessment of risks and potential pros and cons of different approaches, with the goal of becoming a strategic hub for clients.

Viralam said the group is intended to unify Newmark strengths across areas including corporate advisory, research, workplace strategy, and capital markets. He was appointed with a directive to meld those business lines into a method that allows the firm to deploy best practices for its clients.

The interview also ties the strategy focus to office demand dynamics in New York, including how some firms have been reinvesting in occupancy and centering operations around the city after the COVID-19 period, according to the outlet.
