Domestic investors boost Indian equity stakes to record levels in June
In June, domestic institutional investors lifted exposure across 14 of 24 Nifty 500 sectors, while trimming six, and kept four unchanged, Motilal Oswal Financial Services said.
Domestic institutional investors are increasing their influence in India’s stock market, with DII ownership in the Nifty 500 reaching an all-time high of 21% in June, according to a report cited by LiveMint Markets. The report said DIIs raised holdings in 14 of 24 sectors and reduced them in six, leaving four unchanged, pointing to a more concentrated approach toward sectors tied to India’s domestic growth rather than those reliant on external demand. On the sector mix, BFSI led allocations at 29.4%, followed by autos at 7.9%, consumer at 7.6%, capital goods at 7.4%, and oil and gas at 7.3%. On a year-on-year basis, the report said DIIs increased weights in healthcare, automobiles, capital goods, NBFCs, PSU banks, telecom, retail, and utilities. It also said they trimmed exposure in technology, consumer, oil and gas, cement, chemicals, and insurance.
