Gold opens higher after U.S. pauses planned airstrikes
December gold futures opened at $4,135.2 per troy ounce, up 0.7%, before edging down to $4,111.5 in early trading as markets weighed de escalation prospects.
Gold prices rose at the open on Monday, August 3, 2026, following news that the U.S. decided to pause extended airstrikes in Iran planned for Sunday night, according to Yahoo Finance.
December gold futures opened at $4,135.2 per troy ounce, up 0.7% from Friday’s close, and by 7:58 a.m. ET the price had edged down to $4,111.5 as markets assessed President Trump’s announcement.
Yahoo Finance also noted that Iranian leaders said they are not yet in active negotiations with the U.S., and claimed they are only in talks with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
The report said that while pausing the airstrikes was an initial step toward talks, sustained improvement would likely depend on progress in negotiations, with inflation concerns tied to any longer term de escalation.
