Indian-flagged ship sinks in Red Sea after attack near Yemen
The MSV Faize Noore Oliya’s crew was rescued after an attack south of the port city of Hodeida, with India condemning the strike as unprovoked.
A commercial ship registered to India sank in the Red Sea on Tuesday after an attack south of Yemen’s port city of Hodeida, according to an official in the Yemeni city of Mokha. Agence France-Presse reports the coastguard rescued the vessel’s crew, which included 13 Indian nationals and one Yemeni.
India’s shipping minister said the ship was hit by a projectile near Yemeni waters. The Indian minister also condemned the attack as unprovoked, after Yemen’s internationally recognized government blamed Iran-backed Houthi rebels, according to Saba news agency.
The incident occurred after the vessel was attacked in the Red Sea, with authorities detailing that the crew survived and was taken into rescue custody following the sinking.
