Mastercard closes $1.8B BVNK deal to expand stablecoin payments
The acquisition combines Mastercard’s global network with BVNK’s on-chain infrastructure to link digital and fiat rails for cross-border payments, payouts, settlement, and treasury flows.
Mastercard has completed its acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK in a deal valued at $1.8 billion, positioning the payments giant to expand stablecoin-based payment services for banks, fintechs, and enterprises. Cointelegraph reports that Mastercard said the combination will connect its global network with BVNK’s on-chain infrastructure to link digital currencies with fiat currencies.
Mastercard expects the tie-up to support broader use of stablecoins and tokenized assets across cross-border business payments, payouts, settlement, and treasury services. The company also said the integrated setup is designed to help institutions scale stablecoin and tokenized asset workflows beyond transfers, including settlement and treasury flows.
BVNK said the acquisition process has officially ended and that customers will continue using the same teams, products, and integrations without required action. According to Cointelegraph, BVNK added that banks could offer stablecoin payment services and connect customer accounts to wallets, while payment providers could enable around-the-clock merchant settlement.
The deal was agreed in March and includes $300 million in contingent payments, Cointelegraph added. The transaction follows the abandonment of a separate proposed $2 billion Coinbase and BVNK deal that had reached due diligence in November 2025.
